Javier Alonso Ruiz-Ojeda

Independent Director

Holds a Degree in Mathematics from the University of Zaragoza and a PADE (Programa de Alta Dirección de Empresas) from the IESE Business School. He has 42 years of experience in the banking and finance sector, with high international exposure.

Professional career

He has held different responsibilities at the Bank of Spain, such as Deputy Governor (2017-2018), Director General of Operations, Markets, and Payment Systems (2006-2016), Director of Operations (2000-2006), and Director of Foreign Operations (1989-2000). He has also been a member of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (MUS) of the European Central Bank (BCE), where he was also part of different high-level committees and groups; of the committees for the Committee on the Global Financial System (CGFS) and Markets of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS); of the Board of Directors of the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV); and of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME).

More recently he has been a director of TARGOBANK (2023-2024) and of ABANCA Vida y Pensiones de Seguros y Reaseguros (since 2002).

In October 2025, he is appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of ABANCA Corporación Bancaria, S.A.
