José García Montalvo

Independent Director

Born in Valencia in 1964. Full Professor of Economics in Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). Economics graduate from Universitat de Valencia. PhD in Economics from Harvard University.

Professional career

Lecturer in Universitat de Valencia and Harvard University. Advisor at the European Union, the OECD, the World Bank and the Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, among other organizations and institutions. He was an independent director of the Board of Directors of Catalunya Banc, an advisor of the Social and Economic Counsel of Catalonia and the chairman of the Audit Commission and a member of the board of trustees of a number of foundations.

He has been awarded a number of prizes and distinctions, the most recent of which are the prize to Transfer of Knowledge in Social Sciences and the ICREA-Academia prize (2008).

Currently he is a full professor of Economics in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), an ICREA-Academia researcher and research professor of IVIE (Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Económicas).

In August 2014 he was appointed member of the Board of Directors of NCG Banco, S.A. (currently ABANCA Corporación Bancaria, S.A).
