At ABANCA, we have worked since our origins for a responsible and sustainable banking model, transparent and innovative, based on a profitable economic business, which allows us to contribute to social development and environmental protection.
We have recently reformulated our strategy to adapt it to the current context and have set new goals aligned with the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreements. The Action Plan for Responsible and Sustainable Banking 2021-2024 includes the goals that we have set and the established roadmap in order to be a relevant actor in the field of sustainability; support sustainable economic activity by integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects into the management, business and risk model, and accompany our clients in the transition towards sustainability.
The actions planned to promote an economic and social model that respect the environment are structured around three main lines of ESG action:
- Environmental: includes the measures to face the climatic emergency.
- Socioeconomic: includes actions to promote recovery and transformation towards sustainable development.
- Good governance: actions to promote a management model focused on the needs of stakeholders and with special attention to new risks.
The Sustainability Policy and the Responsible Investment and Integration of Sustainability Risk Policy, together with the other internal policies, constitute the corporate framework that guides our actions in the field of Sustainability.
This Sustainability Policy aims to gather ABANCA’s strategy and basic principles of action and commitments in order to promote sustainability, evaluate its strategic impact and promote and manage initiatives designed to respond to the challenges put forward by climate change from an environmental, social and governance point of view.
Its objective is to contribute to being a high-performance organization that pursues to be profitable in a sustainable, responsible and innovative way, by creating value, analysing, preventing and mitigating the negative impacts that our decisions and business activities have on the environment and society, and also ensuring that our governance structures contribute in a valuable way to sustainable and inclusive development, which will be always supported by the actions of the people involved therein and guided by social interest.
The planet is facing a great change and it is the responsibility of each one of us to safeguard its well-being, since it is the only one we have and it is the one that provides us with the oxygen, water and resources we need to live. Moreover, its sustainability implies "caring, protecting and preserving".
This Policy provides a common reference framework for the establishment of objectives and for the undertaking of actions based on ABANCA's commitment to consume energy in an efficient way, reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and establish adequate environmental management mechanisms.
ABANCA has gone one step further in its involvement to face the climate emergency.
The Responsible Investment and Integration of Sustainability Risk Policy aims to collect the strategy and basic principles of voluntary and aspirational action in this matter, in order to obtain a return on investment that is consistent with the objectives of its clients, while seeking maximize social welfare. For that purpose, the sustainability risks or ESG risks of the investments are taken into account and incorporated into the specific financial metrics on these factors.
